When was the last time in your life that you were so happy that you couldn’t contain it? You went round singing, shouting, telling everyone who would listen? Maybe you even called up friends and relatives to share the news?
Perhaps you got the keys to your dream home, your first grandchild was born, or you received an unexpected cheque in the mail. Well, i have news for you brothers and sisters: we all have the opportunity to live with that same overflowing joy every single day. This is because of the glorious news - the Good news of Jesus Christ.
Therefore because God reigns in righteousness, He will come again and judge the world and make all things new, as He has promised in His word (see Revelation) that is why it is so important for us to spread the word - because when the fear of the Lord is upon the earth there will be two types of fear; Godly fear and worldly fear.
There will be those who fear the Lord through reverence for Him and who are in awe because of His holiness, those who choose to follow Him.
While others will experience worldly fear which is terror and dread. Those whom rejected Christ and His gift of mercy. Who will ultimately face judgement for their deeds.
However for those who are in Christ Jesus there is no condemnation (Romans 8:1) because we receive His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21) and we can approach God without the fear of punishment because we are covered by the blood of Jesus.
Gods judgement is described as a consuming fire "a fire goes before Him and burns up His enemies round about" (Psalm 97:3) all who appose and reject Him will be His enemies and His judgement will be like a consuming fire that cannot be escaped.
Before we come to Christ we too are separated from God because of sin. This separation began in the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve disobeyed Him (see Genesis 3) breaking their relationship with their creator.
But there is The Good News. Through Jesus the barrier of sin is broken. By His sacrifice on the cross we are reconciled to God and adopted as His Children. We are no longer enemies but beloved sons and daughters, secure in His love and grace.
This is the Good news that should fill us with un containable joy, the kind that makes us want to shout from the rooftops and share with everyone we meet! Just as we would share the excitement of a new home or a life changing gift. How much more should we enthusiastically share the life transforming truth of the gospel!? Let us live each day with the same zeal, proclaiming the joy of our salvation and inviting others to share it too.
Prayer:
Thank you Lord Jesus for the Good News of your reign and redemption. Thank you for loving me so much you gave your life to reconcile me to God. Forgive me for the times i take this gift for granted or fail to share it with the joy and enthusiasm it deserves. Amen
"You who love the Lord, hate evil!
He preserves the souls of His saints
