Labouring with the Lord

Always work with the Lord and not against Him, not away from Him, and not on your own accord. Always stop and think before taking action. Pray to the Lord; some of our brilliant ideas may have flaws and failings, and God doesn't want to see us fail. Sometimes He is holding us back for a reason. He wants us to work with Him and prosper.

Wise words that we should listen to: Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said, "Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it" (Psalm 127:1). Sometimes when we go ahead with our own plans without consulting the Lord, we are trying to build our house on our own, and therefore, it is in vain. This leaves us feeling confused and frustrated. We must always be laboring with the Lord in whatever we do.

So, how do we work for and with the Lord?

Imagine this: you have a building site with no foreman, and all the laborers have been commissioned with the same task—to build a house. Each builder has their own plan and their own idea of what the house should look like. They bring different materials at different times, according to their own preferences, and build what they think might be a good idea. This would be chaos. When you visualize this, you can see what the workers of God sometimes look like. We all show up to work keen and eager, but we just get started without having been given the correct briefing. We need a foreman. We need God! Without the correct briefing, the right tools, and the right vision, when we don't have these things, we are laboring in vain.

What is our personal briefing?

What are our personal tools? What does our personal inventory look like? What has God given us in our lives, and how can we use it for kingdom living?

Vision—what is the vision God has given you for building? If you don't have one, ask God to build one in your heart.

Pray and seek the Lord in all your plans.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being our guide and our foreman. Help us to seek Your guidance in every area of our lives and to work in partnership with You. May we always pray to You before we act and trust in Your perfect plan. Build within us the vision You want us to follow, and give us the tools and wisdom we need to do Your work. We surrender our plans to You and ask that You lead us in all things. In Jesus' name, Amen.
